As you may or may not know, one of our congregants, Lisa Gilliam, has recently been dealing with her share of horrific life changing events.

First, her nineteen year old daughter Sarah was recently diagnosed with kidney failure. She is currently undergoing medical treatment and will be, at the right time, scheduled for a kidney transplant.

Second, her twenty two year old son Farrell, a United States Marine, while on patrol in Afghanistan stepped on an IED (land mine) and is now at Bethesda Naval Hospital undergoing extensive surgical procedures for the loss of both of his legs, complicated with severe internal and external injuries. He has many years of physical and emotional rehabilitation ahead of him.

During all of this, Lisa has been at her children's side, doing what we all would do, caring for our children. She has used up her vacation, sick leave and compensatory time to be with her children and at this point we do not know when she will be able to return to work at Valley Children's Hospital. She will have a heavy ongoing financial burden ahead of her when she does return to Fresno.

To assist her when she returns the "Lisa Gilliam Assistance Fund" has been set up at our Temple for her use as needed to defray costs as they arise in the future. We ask that you please send your generous donations to this much needed fund. Without your financial support she will have a much greater burden than she has now. Your check should be made payable to Temple Beth Israel, referencing the above noted fund. Your love and best wishes have been received by her and her family.

Please let us join together as a caring community to help her deal with this burden that none of us would want to bear.
